Porsche has established a new one make cup for the 2009 motorsport year. The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge
ranks between the national Carrera Cups and the clubsport races as for example the Sportscup Endurance.
The regulations have been taken from the German Carrera Cup. The weekend format with one 45 minute free practice
session, a 30 minute qualifying session and a 30 minute sprint race has also been copied. Drivers have to be
at least holder of a national DMSB-A licence. The only eligible cars are the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup version of
the modell year 2008 or 2009. For the older modells a upgrade kit is available. The championship is made up of
six rounds. Unfortunately, the second round collides with the 24 hours of Le Mans race weekend.
Jetalliance Racing employs two cars in the GT3 Cup Challenge, which are driven by Thomas Gruber and Lukas
Lichtner-Hoyer. Since the GT3 Cup Challenge and the Porsche Sportscup share the same organisation and event platform,
the team will also run two cars in the Sportscup Endurance. The 2009 car will be driven by Vitus Eckert. A
further MY2007 car (which is allowed in the Sportscup) is piloted by the duo, which also participates separately in the
GT3 Cup Challenge: Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer and Thomas Gruber.
